Highlanders FC collected three points yesterday at Barbourfields stadium in a win against Harare City FC. The win came after a streak of 6 draw games from the club.
Interim Manager Joel Luphahla was in charge of the match, with the new technical manager, while Baltemar Jose De Oliveira Brito and his new assistant Torres were sitting this one out.
Joel Luphahla named a strong side with junior products Mthabisi Ncube making his first debut to the Club, while holding midfielder Darlington Mukuli also made his first start in the starting line-up. Adrian Silla, Toto Banda and Keith Mavunga missed the fixture due to injury.
Bosso controlled the match in the first minutes of the game with veteran Joel Ngodzo and Nqobizitha Masuku holding the game in the middle of the park.
Twelve minutes into the game Harare City FC’s Emmanual Mandiranga almost caught Ariel Sibanda off guard with a long effort but Sibanda tipped it over the bar.
The teams maintained the game level going into the break. In the second half, Bosso had an upper hand, though there was no goal, until eighty minutes.
Sibanda converted the penalty in the 80th minute after substitute Washington Navaya was brought down inside the box by Harare City defender Callum Majure.
Speaking after the match Joel Luphahla said the boys played a very good game, even though there were hit by injuries.
“The pressure of playing home gave weight to us but am happy with the attitude of the boys and as a team we get under pressure if results don’t come” added Luphahla.
The win lifted Bosso up to 10th position on the log with 20 points from 10 matches while Harare City are 11th.
This was the 17th match which marked the end of the first half of the season. The season will resume on the 25th of June.
