Highlanders on Thursday beat arch rivals Dynamos 2-0 to lift the Independence Cup for a record eight times, since the competition was officially launched in 1983.
Only Dynamos had won the Cup eight times prior to the Thursday clash, with Highlanders being the second most successful Club in the history of the competition.
Bosso went to the match smarting from a 1-3 league defeat in the hands of Harare City, but the Bulawayo giants rose to the occasion, outclassing their opponents in all departments.
Highlanders had to patiently wait for the second half for goals from Bukhosi Sibanda who was making his first official debut for the Club, and Tinashe Makanda.
After the match, technical manager Madinda Ndlovu was an impressed many, hoping his charges will build from the win and start collecting points in the league matches.
“It’s a game that, of course, we have won but when we look back at it, it’s an occasional game. We don’t bank on occasional games. We are trying to look at the bigger spectrum, which is the league,’’ said Ndlovu.
“We don’t change our kind of thinking in terms of analysing our players. I think we have not got to where we want to be in terms of our fitness levels.
“So, we still have got to work hard and try and make sure that our players get to enjoy this type of football that they played today because that is our trademark type of football, the passing game.
“If they are really fit to the levels that we want them to be then we can enjoy more than what we saw today.’’
