Highlanders returned to winning ways yesterday, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bikita Minerals at Gibbo Stadium.
Bosso opened the scoring in the 11th minute Reason Sibanda earned a penalty after being brought down inside the box, and Benjamin Oluwarotimi Adeogun—making his first start for the club since joining from Gwanda Pirates—stepped up to take the penalty. The Nigerian international coolly slotted the ball home to give us the lead.
Bosso continued to press for a second goal, with their relentless effort almost paying off in the 34th minute. Never Rauzhi danced past his marker before unleashing a powerful strike that, went just wide. However, the boys’ hard work was rewarded in the 44th minute when Reason Sibanda doubled our lead right before halftime.
Highlanders started the second half with the same high energy, eager to put the game to bed. Mason Mushore played a perfectly weighted pass to Benjamin Oluwarotimi, who attempted to chip it over the goalkeeper, but his effort sailed just over the crossbar.
Bikita Minerals refused to sit back and managed to pull one back in the 85th minute, setting up a tense, nail-biting finish. Despite the pressure, Bosso held on to their advantage and collected all three points.
After the match, Head Coach Hendrickus Pieter de Jong praised the team for a stellar performance and expressed his hope that they will replicate it when they face Yadah next week.
“The boys did a fantastic job, but we have to give credit to everyone,” said De Jongh.
