Weekend Round-Up: Action as it happened over the weekend.

It was a busy weekend for the Highlanders FC family, with all our teams in action—from the Under-13s right up to the first team, including our ladies’ side, the Highlanders Royals.

First Team

The first team suffered a 2–0 defeat at the hands of Telone FC at Barbourfields Stadium. Bosso started brightly in the opening minutes, but Telone’s Macheke broke the deadlock early in the first half. We dominated possession but struggled in the final third. In the second half, Bosso continued to push for an equalizer. A golden opportunity came in the 70th minute when we were awarded a penalty. Captain Ariel Sibanda stepped up, but Telone goalkeeper Criss Mverechena made a crucial save. More chances followed—Archford Faira dribbled past the Telone defense and delivered a brilliant cross from the left, but Reason Sibanda couldn’t connect. In the 90th minute, Luckmore Mutumbi was shown a red card, reducing Bosso to 10 man. Moments later, Washington Navaya sealed the win for Telone with a second goal.

 Bosso 90 (Developmental Side)

Our developmental side showed incredible resilience, coming from behind twice to secure all three points against Zebra Revolution in the Black and White Derby at White City B Arena.

Zebra struck first in the opening minutes, but Mthabisi Ncube responded quickly with an equalizer, and the teams went into halftime level. In the second half, Zebra regained the lead through a well-taken header by Prosper Msamayada to make it 2–1. However, Bosso 90 refused to back down. Ayanda Mkhwebu stepped up with two quick goals, turning the game around and securing a thrilling 3–2 victory.

Highlanders Royals (Women’s Team)

Our ladies were set to face Red Buffaloes at Bulawayo Chiefs Village. With preparations complete and the starting XI named, the team was ready to compete. Unfortunately, the away side failed to show up, resulting in a walkover. Highlanders Royals were awarded all three points.

Junior Teams (U13, U15, U17)

Our junior teams were in action at Njube Grounds against Njube Spurs.

  • Under-13s claimed a 1–0 victory thanks to a decisive strike from Ryan Green.
  • Under-15s suffered a 5–0 defeat.
  • Under-17s were beaten 2–0.

A weekend of mixed results, but plenty of heart and determination across all levels of the Bosso family. We regroup, we learn, and we go again.
