We take a look at club Chairman Kenneth Mhlophe, Technical Manager Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh, captain Ariel Sibanda and man of the moment, Prince Dube’s reaction to the Chibuku Super Cup victory.
Dube scored a rare goal to propel Bosso to a 1-0 victory over Ngezi Platinum, sending thousands of Highlanders fans who thronged Barbourfields Stadium and those who followed the match on virtual spaces from their bases in different parts of the world into delirium.
Arguably the player of the tournament, Dube scored in all the four matches of the competition whilst Sibanda finished the competition without conceding a goal.
Also very vital was the Bosso defense marshaled by Peter Muduhwa, the best center back in the domestic league, and the midfield commanded by the ever green Nqobizitha Masuku.
“We are grateful to our partners NetOne for the support that they have been giving us. We are also grateful to the supporters, who came in their numbers to cheer the boys. We never had a good start to the season, but winning this trophy makes up for the slow start we had. Even when things didn’t appear to be going according to the way we had wanted, the fans stood by the boys, cheered the team and they deserve a big thank you. Thank you Highlanders’ fans for passionately supporting the club,” Kenneth Mhlophe.
“For me it’s simple, I look at the reaction of the fans and from their reaction it’s a goal. The reaction of the players and fans for me is enough,Difficult game, first-half, we played very well, scored a goal at the right moment. One zero I was happy, we played a disciplined, beautiful one, second-half was not good, too early, the ball loose,’’ Hendrikus Pieter de Jongh.
“Amazing moment yesterday for winning the Chibuku Cup Final. Very big thanks to the PSL and Chibuku for an excellent organisation. Thanks also to our great fans,” wrote De Jongh on his Twitter page
“This is an early Christmas present to the Highlanders’ family. We worked hard for this glory and I’m proud of my teammates, who gave their all to make sure we win the Chibuku Super Cup. Thank you to everyone who played their part; the fans, management and our sponsors.” Ariel Sibanda.
“This is for all the Highlanders’ fans and everyone around the country who kept believing in us even when we went through bad times. I’m overly excited that we managed to win this tournament for our fans, who have been driving us,” Prince Dube.
