Prince Dube converted a 37th minute penalty to propel the Highlanders to a relieving 1-0 victory over a very tough Chapungu side in a Castle Larger Premier Soccer League (PSL) match played at Barbourfields stadium on Wednesday.
The win moves Highlanders who have been hovering just above the relegation zone on position 14 three places up position 11 with a game in hand.
Bosso won the penalty in the 29th minute when the man of the moment, Ray ‘Ndori Ndori’ Lunga was hacked down inside the penalty box by the Chapungu right-back Pinel Gumbo who had a busy day in office, failing in numerous occasions to contain the diminutive and slippery Lunga.
The play was stopped for eight minutes before Dube stepped up to convert the spot kick as Chapungu players tried to contest the decision, but the referee of the day Hardlife Ndazi stuck to his guns.
Technical Manager Mandla Mpofu was happy with the win.
“We are happy we managed to grind a result. A team, player and coach are judged by results. It was not an exciting win, but we are happy to get the three points,” he said.
Highlanders who have a game in hand now have 20 points, 12 behind log leaders FC Platinum.
The Wednesday win is the fourth of the season for Bosso who have drawn eight times and lost four times.
