Highlanders Technical Manager Mark Harrison is looking forward to his first official match as the Bosso gaffer as his side will be involved in the Castle Challenge Cup against FC Platinum of the 14th of March.
The Castle Challenge Cup, also dubbed the ‘Champions of Champions’ clash will feature the 2019 Castle Larger Premier Soccer League Champions FC Platinum and Highlanders who won last year’s edition of the Chibuku Super Cup.
The PSL announced date, venue and price money for the eagerly waited final through a statement on Thursday afternoon, exactly 23 days before the day to allow enough time for the marketing of the game as well as to give both teams enough time to prepare for the potential blockbuster.
“We are pleased to announce that the Castle Challenge Cup between FC Platinum and Highlanders FC is scheduled to be played at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday 14 March 2020. The Castle Challenge Cup winners will receive a sum of ZWL $400 000 (Four hundred thousand dollars) and the runners up will receive ZWL $250 000 (Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars)” read the statement.
In reaction to the announcement, Harrison who took over from Hendrikus Pieter De Jongh, a man who led Bosso to the Chibuku Super Cup glory before shifting base to Zvishavane to take charge of FC Platinum, said he was looking forward to the encounter adding that it will be good for his charges.
” I am really looking forward to the game. It will be a really good test for the guys. It will be a very good yardstick for me as well to know where we are, what we are capable of doing and where we are in terms of preparation and obviously an opportunity to win some silverware at the beginning of the season. It would be nice to play at Barbourfields with a big crowd”, said Harrison.
FC Platinum are the reigning Castle Challenge Cup after beating Triangle 2-0 at Mandava stadium in 2018, successfully winning the cup they had won in 2017 defeating Harare City 2-1 at the same venue.
The Cup was launched in 2017, and it will be played outside Zvishavane for the first time in its History.
