Highlander’s Royals FC are ready for the second half of the season in the Southern Region Women’s Soccer League, which is set to start in the first week of September.
Highlanders merged with Sobukhazi High School in a deal that saw the high school players and the technical team moving to the Bosso squad.
Sobukhazi High school’s women’s team has benefited a lot from merging with Highlanders as they get to meet and benefit from experienced coaches provided by Highlanders Royals and as well as enjoying medical benefits.
Highlanders Royals started their first match of the league with a draw against Black Boots under the guidance of Sobukhazi High School coach Mugariri Zhou and Sabina Shumba who was the team’s manager. Highlander’s Royals played eleven matches and won one game against Bulawayo Queens FC by 12 to nil, drew two games against Street Set and ZRP FC, and lost nine games to Bulawayo Chiefs Queens FC, Entumbane Queens, New Orleans, and Lobengula City Queens amongst others.
In June, the team welcomed a new technical manager for the Royals, Edmore Sibanda. Technical manager, Edmore Sibanda said he was ready to continue where Zhou left off, and was promising to end the season in a better position.
“I hope to finish where Zhou left off and to put up a good fight till the end, this two-week break gave us time and space to improve and we are geared to face the opponents”, said Sibanda during an interview with the Highlander’s Media Department.
The Highlanders Royal’s current squad is made up of; strikers; Tracy Maramba 7, Lister Ndlovu 14, Shamine Ndlovu 22, the defenders are Faith Phiri 3 and Dion Ndlovu 6, while Sakhile Masuku 5 is a midfielder and the goalkeeper is Khanyile Sibanda 1.
