Highlander’s FC has been booted out of the 2021/22 Chibuku Super Cup after losing 1-0 to their rivals Bulawayo Chiefs in a quarterfinal derby at Barbourfields stadium on Sunday.
Highlanders FC failed to meet its Chibuku championship title race when Bulawayo Chiefs skipper Malvin Mkolo scored in the second half around 67th minute finishing off from Musiyiwa corner kick.
Highlander FC finished the match with ten men as Highlanders defender Peter Muduhwa was sent out of the pitch in the dying minutes of the game.
Muduhwa was sent off during the 2nd half of the game when he elbowed his opponent in the 90th minute of the game.
It was a bad day for Muduhwa who appeared to have been sent off for a second bookable offence midway in the first half for a foul inside the box before the referee reversed his decisions after consultations with both the players and his assistant.
During an interview with Highlanders media team, Highlanders coach Baltimore Brito said it was a bad day for his players as they could not proceed to the semi-finals.
“It was not our day, we wish all the best to Bulawayo Chiefs as they proceed to the semi-finals,” said Brito.
Bulawayo Chiefs will be proceeding to the semi-finals where they will face the army side Black Rhinos.
Highlanders FC last won the Chibuku Super Cup Final in 2019 where they won against 1-0 against FC Platinum.
