In a move to empower players and technical staff beyond the pitch, Highlanders Football Club today held a comprehensive financial literacy workshop at the National University of Science and Technology.
The aim of the capacity-building workshop was to equip the players and technical team with essential knowledge and tools to manage their finances effectively, empowering them beyond the pitch.
Recognizing the significance of financial well-being for both the technical team and players, the club invited renowned financial expert Mr Stevenson O Dlamini, Lecturer in the department of Banking and Economic Science, a prominent economist and financial literacy advocate.
The session covered a wide range of topics, including budgeting, investing, tax planning, and retirement savings.
Players gained invaluable insights into understanding their income, creating realistic financial goals, and making informed decisions about their money.
Mr. Dlamini emphasized the importance of tax compliance and proper planning, highlighting the consequences of failing to file tax returns and pay the correct amount of taxes owed on time.
“Tax compliance and proper planning is mandatory, as individuals earning significant income, players must file tax returns and pay the correct amount of taxes owed on time, failing to do so can result in penalties, fines, and in rare cases even criminal charges from Zimra,” he said.
The workshop featured interactive sessions, including panel discussions with the Highlanders FC , CEO Mr. Sihlangu Dlodlo.
Highlanders Football Club believes that by empowering its players and technical team with financial knowledge, it is not only contributing to their personal well-being but also fostering a stronger, more responsible team.
By taking this proactive approach, Highlanders FC demonstrates its commitment to the holistic development of its players and staff, ensuring they excel both on and off the pitch.
