Highlanders FC and ZPC Kariba face-off on Match-day one.

Highlanders FC will begin their 2023 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign with a home game against ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields stadium this Sunday, 19 March 2023.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 3 pm.

Bosso who won their last league title in 2006, will be aiming to end their 17-year drought.

Last season, Highlanders faced ZPC Kariba on match day 17 where both teams drew 0-0 at Nyamhunga stadium. The two teams clashed in the second round of the league at Barbourfields Stadium which was Bosso’s last home game where the match ended with a one-all draw.

Speaking at their first match press conference held at Utande Internet Services, Assistant Coach Antonio Torres said they were ready for the 2023 season.

“We are happy with the current squad and we are stronger than before, we have managed to build a squad that is competitive, and we are ready for the season.

“I urge the supporters to come in numbers on Sunday, we are promising them a good game,” said Torres.

Speaking to journalists, Captain Ariel Sibanda said the squad had used the pre-season to prepare them for the 2023 season.

“It was a fair pre-season, we trained twice as much as we could, and we are ready for the game on Sunday,” said Sibanda.

The club made changes to its technical staff, Madinda Ndlovu joined the club as the first Assistant Coach while Abraham Mubaiwa replaced Harold Nhachi as a fitness trainer.

The club also welcomed a new set of players who include Reward Muza who returned from loan from BCC, Gillian Nyathi and McKinnon Mushore who were promoted from Bosso 90, Calvin Chigonero who is on loan from Talen Vision, Melikhaya Ncube and Elshamar Farasi both from Bulawayo City FC, Marvellous Chigumira from Tel One FC and Brighton Manhire from Richards Bay.

The club parted ways with Bukhosi Sibanda, Adrian Silla, Muziwakhe Dhlamini, Toto Banda, Crispen Ncube, Nqobizitha Masuku and Prichard Mphelele, while Nigel Ncube, Prince Nyathi and Mthabisi Ncube were not picked for the 2023 squad.
