Daniel Khumalo popularly known as Kayembe, joined the Highlanders family as the Goalkeeper’s Coach after the departure of Julius Ndlovu who got released by the club with Mandla Mpofu the former teams Technical Manager.
Khumalo was born in the year 1981 on 17 June at Mpilo hospital in Bulawayo and did his High School education at Mzilikazi High School where his soccer career as a goalkeeper began.
During the year 1995 Daniel competed in the Nash CocaCola competition and he was voted as the goalkeeper of the tournament, he was picked as the goalkeeper of the Youth Champions League CAF games.
Kayembe describes his High School life time as a stepping stone to his coaching carrier as he managed to play with one of the successful players in Zimbabwe.
“In Mzilikazi High school I managed to play with Johane Ngodzo, Vusa Nyoni and Stanford Nyoni”, said Khumalo during an interview with the Highlanders FC communication department.
After finishing his O level education, Kayembe was signed by Rail Stars Football Club for two seasons from January 2005 to 2007, he was then signed by Old Nickel Mine to play for Division 1 as a goal keeper from the year 2008 to 2009 and he played as Mimosa Mine club in 2010 only for a season. He completed his coaching career and obtained a CAF C coaching course.
In January 2021 he became the FC Platinum Junior Goalkeeper’s coach for 2 seasons. He was promoted in 2013 to the FC Platinum Senior team. During his time at FC Platinum, Kayembe was awarded with the Goalkeeper of the year award in 2017. FC Platinum won the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League in 2018 and the Premier Soccer League in 2019, with Kayembe as their Goalkeeper’s coach. In 2021 he left FC Platinum and joined Bulawayo City FC.
Kayembe said he was delighted to be working with one of the biggest clubs in Zimbabwe like Highlanders FC.
“I chose Highlanders FC because of their professionalism, it is an achievement to be working with professionals every day, “said Kayembe.
Kayembe said he will be a good mentor to the Bosso Goalkeepers.
“I would love to see my Goalkeeper’s calendar with 15 clean sheets come end of the 2022 season, I have hope and I believe in my team”, said Kayembe.
Daniel Khumalo will be working alongside the new Technical Manager, Baltemar Jose de Oliveira Brito and his two assistants, Joel Luphahla and Antonio Joao Martins Leao Torres.
