Bosso out to beat rivals Dynamos for the first silverware of the season

Despite the slow start to the 2019 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) season that have seen the team collecting only two from the possible nine points, Highlanders will be out to beat traditional rivals Dynamos to beg the first silverware of the season when the two sides clash in the Uhuru Cup at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow.

Highlanders and Dynamos are the biggest and most successful clubs in the country, with a lot of history and fan-base.

Last season Bosso finished outside of the top four, but had better numbers in terms of stadium going fans than any other club in the league, an indication that the club has a very good stadium going culture.

Dynamos also have a good following of their own, especially in Harare where the Independence celebrations will be held.

It is against this background that the country’s traditional soccer rivals have been handpicked to face off in the Uhuru Cup as part of the country’s 39th Independence celebrations at the National Sports Stadium tomorrow.

The two return to the Uhuru Cup after missing out last year after the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA’s) had opted to invite Botswana to play against locally-based Warriors at the same venue.

The Sports and Recreation Commission was quoted by the local daily newspaper, the Chronicle admitting that both Highlanders and Dynamos have a history and a good following which cannot be overlooked for such occasions.

“As we celebrate Zimbabwe’s 39th Independence, we engaged Zifa to fixture two teams with great history Dynamos and Highlanders to provide entertainment. The final will be played at the National Sports Stadium,” the Chronicle quoted the SRC.

Last season Bosso completed a league double against Dynamos, beating their perennial rivals 1-0 at Rufaro stadium before drubbing them 3-0 at Barbourfields stadium, so they will hoping to continue from where they left last season.

Both teams have had slow starts to the season, but Highlanders is going out there for a win that will motivate the team ahead of their home league match against Triangle on Monday.

The two giants head into tomorrow’s encounter smarting from defeats in their previous PSL games on the road.

DeMbare were humbled 2-0 by Chicken Inn in Bulawayo, while Bosso lost 3-1 by Harare City.
